Meet Your Builder

Q & A with Marco De Freitas

(Managing Director of Atlantic Homes Pty Ltd)

January 2016

How many years have you been in the Industry?

I have been in the industry for twenty three years. I began specialising in Solid Plastering in 1992 and building under Atlantic Homes in 2004.

When was Atlantic Homes established?

Atlantic Homes was established in 2004 as a family-run business. It was founded alongside my brother Elio, also a Registered Builder and Father Agostinho, who was a Builder in Portugal before immigrating to Australia.

What does Atlantic Homes specialise in?

Atlantic Homes specialises in custom built luxury homes. Each home design is unique to the clients brief, as we focus on their individual needs, wants and vision.

Why did you start your own building company?

With the encouragement of my family, my own experience within the industry and my passion for construction, I saw the opportunity to positively contribute to the West Australian Construction Industry. I have a true passion for building and thrive on each challenge. I find it extremely rewarding when clients can physically realise their dreams. On a personal level, it’s extremely gratifying experiencing all the phases of construction, knowing that the team at Atlantic Homes is producing an excellent product that we can be proud of.

How many homes does Atlantic Homes build each year?

Atlantic Homes builds on average three homes per year, depending on size, design and scope of works. When you build with Atlantic Homes you deal direct with the Registered Builder, either myself or Elio. The fact that I and / or Elio, personally supervise and manage all our projects, means that we are on-site during the entire construction phase. This makes the building process a stress-free and enjoyable experience for our clients. Our projects are stringently supervised, so that the end product is of superior quality that exceeds client expectations, not only in cost but also time, quality and scope.

What type of homes does Atlantic Homes build?

Atlantic Homes specialises in single and multi-storey custom built luxury homes. However, we also cater to all facets of residential construction, including alterations, additions and renovations.

We have recently completed a 310 square metre two storey home with an undercroft and concrete terrazzo. Whilst this project has been a rewarding one, it has come with its challenges as it sits on a 181 square metre site that required very specific design techniques, in order to maximise its potential.

What sets Atlantic Homes apart from other builders?

Atlantic Homes doesn’t compare itself to other building companies. Our primary focus is the relationship between the client, Builder, Designer and trades. We believe that the frequent collaboration between the above individuals, coupled with stringent supervision is the catalyst for a quality built home. By running a transparent operation we are able to implement a superior level of communication blended with integrity and flexibility.

Atlantic Homes also places a high level of importance on the skill and reliability of its specialised trades. A vast majority of our trade base has been with us from day one. Developing and maintaining good working relationships is invaluable in all stages of construction, including design.

What can owners of an Atlantic Homes build expect?

The owners of an Atlantic Homes build can expect a superior level of workmanship with high attention to detail. Our clients can expect honest and frequent communication during construction and a home that meets their brief, budget and exceeds their expectations.

Career highlights?

On a personal level, my career highlight would have to be the completion of Atlantic Homes’ first build.  I also take immense pride in receiving all the positive customer feedback and hope to continue to build upon the reputation of the Atlantic Homes brand.
